Perfect Balance Clinic is proud to announce itself as the principal sponsors of the 2013 St. Albans Half Marathon. After the success of last years race, we were thrilled to be invited to sponsor such a great event for a second year running, and everyone at the clinic is thoroughly looking forward to being a part of it again!
First run in 1982, the St. Albans marathon was the brainchild of local businessman, Phil Gibson, who wanted to raise money for a hospital scanner following the death of his mother from breast cancer. The first running attracted 1,300 competitors each paying £1.00 entry fee receiving a certificate on completion, and the first male home was local athlete Kirk Dumpleton and first female was local school teacher Irene Peatie.
30 years on, the St. Albans Half marathon has now raised over £750,000 for more than 80 local and national charities, and with a record 2,955 people running in the event last year, the race itself is going from strength to strength.
The chosen charity for this year is the Hertfordshire Society for the blind, and we are thrilled to be able to contribute towards such a worthy cause.
We know that you want to feel your best when you line up at the start on the big day. That’s why we are here to help you stand on the start line with confidence, so that you can run your best race.
Our free marathon advice sheet outlines the most common injuries suffered by those training for a demanding race. Take heed, and make sure that you treat any injury properly to give yourself the best chance of achieving your goal on the day.
It is important to look after your body during training. Our rehabilitation and strengthening classes are designed to ensure that you not only recover from any niggles, but also that there are no vulnerable parts of your body as training becomes harder. Regular structured exercises and stretches will make sure you feel formidable on the big day!
Furthermore, sports massage treatment is a great way to ensure that your body is operating as it should whilst you train; without tension and strains whilst making sure you feel stronger after every training session. We are even running some sports massage offers this year, so why not take advantage to ensure your training is what it needs to be!
