What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave therapy is a kind of drug-free pain relief, which has been scientifically proven to help relieve any chronic pain associated with sports injuries. It is also used to treat a number of other conditions, including tendinitis and shoulder, knee and elbow pain.

How does Shockwave Therapy work?

Shockwave therapy has been shown to produce the following effects:

  • Reverse chronic inflammation
  • Reduce the build up of calcium
  • Stimulate the growth of collagen

Repeated applications can help relieve pain and restore full functionality of the chosen area.

Do I Need This Treatment?

Whether you are an athlete or not, you may be susceptible to pains within key areas of the body, such as the shoulders or elbows. You may consider shockwave therapy if you are experiencing:

– Tennis elbow
– Heel spurs
– A painful neck or shoulder
– Shin splints
– Golfer’s elbow
– Hamstring tendinopathy
– Plantar fasciitis

This therapy is absolutely non-invasive and sessions will usually last around 30 minutes. Many injuries can be treated within 3-4 sessions and pain will be significantly reduced after just one treatment.

What Happens During Shockwave Therapy?

The name might suggest that electricity is involved in this treatment, but shockwave therapy actually uses high-intensity energy waves to stimulate tissues within the body.

These shockwaves are applied directly to the area of the body which is causing you pain. No electricity will meet the skin; it’s entirely done with mechanical shockwaves, using a wand to emit energy waves to the problem area.

This is an advanced treatment, which is recommended for painful tendon and muscle issues which were unable to be cured by other treatments. Shockwave therapy is becoming a popular way of treating sports injuries. This is due to its lack of invasiveness and the very quick recovery time.

How do I book an appointment?

All you need to do is contact us and we’ll arrange an appointment at a time to suit you.

Before the treatment begins, our sports injury experts will evaluate your injury and decide whether this is the right treatment for you. Whilst shockwave therapy is able to relieve pain caused by a wide number of strains and tendon issues, it may be that another one of our services is more suited to your needs.

Our trained therapists will consult you to get to the root of what is causing you pain.

If you’re ready to book an appointment, contact us and we will be in touch as soon as possible.
